China transit

Hi, I'll be traveling from Frankfurt via Shanghai to Beijing and Nanjing to Sydney. Do I need a visa for the transit in China? Not sure if I have to leave the aircraft in Nanjing since it's the same flight number and aircraft from Beijing to Nanjing and Sydney
