Can you use the free transit twice?

We are flying to Shanghai from the UK and staying there for 3 days and then we take a flight to New Zealand. Two weeks later we fly back to Shanghai and stay for another 3 days before getting a flight back to the UK. Can we get a free-transit on both occasions that we are staying in Shanghai or do we need to get a tourist L type to cover our stays?
