Returning from Philippines to Chengdu after work Z type expired

Possible just to come straight back on a tourist L type? My Chinese work visa was August 17th 2017-2018. I left on the 5th...want to come back on the 20th on a tourist L type while I wait on documents from the UK to reapply for another work one. That whole process is sorted but do I need anything prepared to get a tourist one 30/60 days on arrival??
