About:Xian Travel

Train from Xian to Shanghai

I have a high speed train booked from Xian Bei to Shanghai, departing at 0845. Do I need to be at the station an hour before departure, and if so what time should I book my taxi from a city centre hotel? i.e. how far out of town is the railway station?

Yes, you need to get there earlier, and 1 hour is ok.
Since I’m not sure where your hotel exactly is, I suppose it’s near Bell Tower, then you can take subway line 2 directly there, which takes about 30 minutes, and the taxi may take 20 minutes. So you are suggested to leave around 7:00.
