About China Visa Extension

Hi!

I'm going on a gap semester program from the States and we'll be in China for 82 days beginning on the 17th of September.

I'm from the Philippines and I applied for my L type here as a tourist. I only got a single entry, 3 month validity with a maximum 30 day duration of stay. The visa expires in November. Is it possible to extend/renew/apply for a new one within China? And when will I need to renew it; after 30 days or when the entry permit expires in November? We'll be in Beijing and travel all around and we'll leave China from Kunming on the 6th of December.

Please, please help! I got a scholarship to go on this incredible program and would hate to not be able to go because of my entry permit :(

Hi, it's possible for you to extend the L type 7 days earlier before it expires at the the exit and entry administration of the local PSB in mainland China. But usually, the extended period won’t exceed the duration of stay of your current L type.

How many times can I extend the duration of stay? For the whole trip, I'd need to extend it twice. Once in October and then mid November.

Also, do u think it will help if I request a longer duration of stay from the embassy here before I go? Are those requests entertained?

Raven, there is no specific rule about how many times you can apply for the extension. You can try to extend it twice. Good luck.
The embassy won’t make the duration of stay of your current L type longer. You can only try to apply for a new tourist L type if you want a longer duration of stay.
