Taipei - Guilin - HongKong possible?

Hello I wonder is it possible to bet a visa-free transit when coming to Guilin by direct flight from Taipei and have a direct flight to Hong Kong then? And also, do we need to have a hotel reservation or tour bookings arranged for when applying for 72hr free transit in there or an onward flight ticket is just fine? Thanks
