Visa requirements issues

I'm going on a 14 days tour of 3 cities and river cruise on October; I have the flight number & basic itinerary. Will that suffice, or do I need hotels accommodation information?

How early can I apply for the entry permit?

Usually, you are advised to make the application one month prior to your trip. If you don't have an invitation letter from China, you need to provide hotel accommodation for that.
