About:How to Travel to China without a Visa

Transit permit if flight from lax goes through Hong Kong and departure is to Hong Kong

If our flight from lax to Shanghai goes through HK and we change planes there and then we depart SH to HK in three days do we need a visa or can we get a transit permit

Do you mean you will travel like LAX-HK-SH-HK? If yes, you won't qualify for free transit in SH because it's not a transit at all.
