will the beijing sites be extra crowded oct 5-9?

We are planning to book a tour and arrive in Bejing before the tour begins. We will arrive on Oct 5th and have a free day on Oct 6th. Our tour takes us to the major sites on Oct 7-8 including Tiananmen Square, Forbidden City & Temple of Heaven on Saturday Oct 7 and the Great Wall in the afternoon on Sunday Oct 8th. Is this a bad idea because of the Golden Week crowds?

Ellen, Beijing will be extra crowded during the Golden Week. Your plan to visit the major sites is great. On Oct.6, you can freely arrange your trip. Many sites may be crowded, but I heard the Peking Man Site at Zhoukoudian has less people. It can be a choice if you are interested.
