About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Hi, and thanks for your help! I'm flying to Thailand and then China:

SFO-PVG-BKK (just layover in PVG) 5 days in Bangkok
then
BKK-PEK 3 or 4 days in Beijing
then the return
PEK-PVG-SFO

Do I need a visa if I only stay the 3 days (72hours) in Beijing? My understanding is that, if I stayed 4 days I would need it, but if I stay only 3 I would not need it. Am I correct?

Ricardo, you need to apply for a tourist L type for your entry to Beijing because you will pass by Shanghai when you return.
