Contacting my airline?

Do I need to contact my Airline before flying to let them know I am doing this?

I am flying to Shanghai in 3 weeks, from London via Moscow. I thought I would have to go to the embassy to get a Visa, so this is not the case?

I'll be in Shanghai for 4 days, the Hong Kong for 3. You don't need a Visa for Hong Kong is that right?
Thanks, any help would be greatly appreciated.

So I'm good to travel without a visa as long as I have my flight details to Hong Kong to show the airline at check-in at Heathrow, then to show the passport control at Shanghai?
