About:China Civil Aviation - Regulations & Security Check

I want to check in some Chinese medicine to take home. Is this possible?

Also how many bags can be checked when flying from China to South Africa - China Air (local), SAA main flight?

that completely depends on the medicine in question.
Your question about luggage does not list a specific airline, usually you are allowed 1 checked in luggage of either 21 or 23 kg. (Economy class)
