Where is the closest place I can go to to buy a Transportation Card? I'll be in the city for 6 weeks so it seems like the most convenient thing for me to do rather than purchase individual trips? Is there any specific type I should get?

Well, you can buy the card on a vending machine at the metro station of the airport. According to your situation, you are advised to buy an On-loan Transportation Card. It may have CNY20 as the refundable deposit, which you can get back when you refund the card.
