Canadian stopping through Beijing (journey does not start/end in Canada)

Hi there. I am a Canadian looking at flights from Ulaanbaatar-Beijing and Beijing-Jakarta. (In Beijing < 24 hours). It is cheaper to book these as separate flights, which means I will need to get my bags and go through security/gate checking again. Does this type of travel qualify as visa-free transit? (I do not intend to leave the airport). Thank you.

You are eligible for the 24 hour direct transit in Beijing if you travel like that.
