About:Chinese Consulates in South Korea

Notarizing Degree

One of the requirements is to have my degree authenticated and notarized by the Chinese Embassy (in my home country, South Africa) - I have an authenticated degree copy, but I live in Korea. Can I get it notarized at a local Chinese Embassy? Is this step even required when applying for a Z visa from Korea (by soon to be employer in China said its different depending on the country).

Ji, you need to provide the attested degree certificate from your home country, you cannot get it notarized at Chinese embassy in Korea. It's required even you make the application from Korea.

Thanks for the answer. I may be confusing the different terms. I have a copy of my degree that has been authenticated by the Department of Higher Education and Training in my home country (I think that means its been attested) - so this document needs to be taken to the Chinese Embassy IN South Africa to be attested again? If I already have the authenticated document is there no way to take it to the Chinese Consulate here (even with a translation?)

If your degree is issued in your home country, you also need to get it attested by the embassy of China in South Africa.

Got it, thanks a lot for the information. This is going to be tricky - does anyone know if there's a local South African service I can use to get this done from Korea?

And one more question - since I live in Korea (I have been for the past 7 years, apart from a 2 month gap (Dec 2016-Feb 2017), is the criminal background check supposed to be from South Africa or Korea?

I’m afraid you cannot get that done from Korea.
You need to provide criminal background check from Korea.
