L Visa to Residency Permit?

Hello,

my future employer is telling me that I don't need to apply for a Z type and that I can just transfer my L (tourist) type over to a residency permit after we get the Foreign Expert certificate/work permit. Is this really possible??

Thanks,
Confused Applicant

Becky, yes, it is possible for you to convert the tourist L type to a work Z type at the exit and entry administration of the local PSB within China. After getting the Z type, you can apply for a residence permit at the PSB.
