Transfer Work Permit from Beijing to Shanghai / Resident Permit deadline

Hi,

I live in Beijing and I am currently negotiating with a company to take a position in Shanghai.
My previous jobs ended last year in November and my former employer provided me the document for the release and the cancellation of job permit in order to get it transferred as soon as I get a new job. But it took longer than expected.

My Resident permit will end in three weeks (so 15 working days).

Will it be enough to process the work permit transfer from Beijing to Shanghai and start the resident permit renewal ?
If not, how long does it took to do the working permit transfer to a new company within Beijing (with a Beijing based new work contract) ?

Seb, I’m afraid the time is not enough for you to do that. Usually, it takes about 22 working days for your new employer to get a new work permit for you, so you are advised to apply for a tourist L type 7 days prior to the expiry date of your current residence permit. In this case, you can stay in China to deal with the relevant procedures.

You need to do the transfer right now. First the Alien Employment Permit, then in turn the residence permit for work stuck on the passport. In case you hand over your application of work visa renewal before it expires, you are safe.
I think if you do right now, it is still in time.
