About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

I'm planning a quick trip to China soon

and wanted to know if I can travel around the country using the 144 hour visa as long as I enter and exit from Shanghai?

Shanghai only has trains to Hong Kong, so if you arrive and depart by train then you are not in transit.
