Hi I will travel to and from Europe from Australia via China.

I stop in Guangzhou then Beijing on the way out and the same in reverse on the way back. Transit time on the way out is 19 hours and 31 hours on the way back. As I'm doing a domestic stop as part of the route, and I stay over 24 hours on the way back I'm assuming I need a dual entry transit visa (if such a thing exists)?

Yes, you need to apply for a transit G type for that. Single entry is okay because you can use the 24 hour direct transit for your first transit in Guangzhou and Beijing.
