Connection from Shanghai to Beijing

Hello. I fly from Canada to Shanghai where I am in the airport for 2 and half hours awaiting connection Beijing where I will be for less than 72 hours. From Beijing I will go to Hong Kong. Does the 72 hour free transit cover both Shanghai and Beijing?
Thanks in advance,

No, it doesn’t. You need to apply for a transit G type for that because the 72 hour visa-free transit policy is only applicable to those flight travelers who transit in one Chinese city.
