About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

can the tickets be with two different airlines?

i am flying from KL to Shanghai with Malaysian airlines. I have no ticket out yet. I plan to buy a ticket from Shanghai to Bangkok with Air Asia for 6 days later...or maybe use Spring to Taipei or Vietnam airlines to HCMC.

Can you confirm that these options fit within their definition of a 'transit'?

Thanks

The embassy says that yes, they can be different airlines. You must have the confirmed seat on the second airline before you arrive in China.
