About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Is this possible for 72 transit visa? BKK to PVG then return PVG to HKG to BKK?

I want to visit China for 2 days for a sports tournament, I'd come Bangkok to Shanghai on a direct flight and then return from Shanghai to Bangkok but via stopover in Hong Kong, can I do this?

Because BKK-SHA-HKG-BKK is clearly within the rules for 144 hours free transit in Shanghai.
