About:China Visa Renewal and Extension

My daughter is in China for 11 months

and will be attending two different universities, for a semester each. She could only apply for a visa for the first semester before she left NZ as she only had an invitation from the first university at the time. Now she has received her invitation for the second semester so needs to get another X type for the rest of her stay. From the information provided above, it sounds like this will replace the visa she has already. Firstly, should she wait until closer to the time of the current X type expiry (July) to apply for a new one? She is going to meet us in Bali in July and I am nervous about booking her flights until I know she has a visa to re-enter. And what is the easiest way to get the visa? Should she go to a PSB? It looks like there is one in Dalian where she is currently located. Thanks for your help.

In addition, the semester break is for two months, so she doesn't want to have a gap between the visas for this period of time when she wants to travel within China.
