About:FAQ of Chinese Visa Application

If I am flying in & out of Shanghai, and am only going to be there 48 hours, I don't need visa?

As a U.S. citizen, there is a 72-hour free transit period, correct?

If you fly to a third country or region different from the last one you come from after transiting in Shanghai, you can use the 72-hour free transit then.
