About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Dubai - HK - Beijing

Hi, I'm travelling from Dubai - HK - Beijing - Dubai. I understand the 72 hour rule and 3rd country rule. I will stop in HK for 24 hours and then I will only be in China for max 48 hours. My question. If I book a Dubai - HK - Beijing multi city flight (it's cheaper than 2 one way flights) will that qualify me for the 72 hour visa? Or, do I need to book separate ones way flights Dubai - HK, then HK - Beijing?
Any help appreciated.

Both are OK as long as your routing works.

Great thanks. So - it would mean that they do not consider where my flight started but instead the country I left to enter China (in this case HK?). Just double checking.

They only consider if your first destination outside China (including stopover destination) is different from the last stop before entering China. So in your case it would be HKG-PEK-DXB.
