question about 72 Hour Visa Exemption

Hello....I do not need to have a continuous trip connected on the same airline to get the 72 hour 'no visa' rule applied do I? In other words, I am planning on flying from Jakarta to Singapore to Shanghai on one flight, and then 2 days later will be taking a different airline from Shanghai to Kuala Lumpur, before returning to Jakarta. This would work correct???
Thank you.
Nathan

Nathan, yes, you can travel on two different airlines. It is fine.
Based on what you said, you will qualify for the free transit in Shanghai.
