X1 & X2 type - Multiple Entry

I am interested to know if a holder of either of the X types, can travel into and out of China. As an example, if based in Shenzhen does the visa permit travel to Hong Kong? Is there a limit on how many exit/entries can be made under these visas

If you hold an X2 type, you cannot travel in and out of China because it is for single entry only. Once you exit China, you need to re-apply for a new X2 type for re-entering China.
However, if you enter China on an X1 type, you can apply for a residence permit which will allow you to exit and enter China for many times within its validity.
The mainland China X type cannot be used to enter HK. A separate visa is needed if you want to visit HK.
