And am wondering what is the best way to get to Jiuzhaigou is.  Also how far the park is from the main city?

You are advised to take a train from Tongren Railway Station to Chengdu Railway Station first. Then take a taxi to Xinnanmen Bus Station. There are several direct shuttle buses that bound for the scenic area. The bus schedules are 07:40, 08:00, 08:20. In addition, Jiuzhai Valley National Park is located in Nanping County, 450 kilometers (about 280 miles) to the north of Chengdu. Have fun!
