About:Chinese Embassies and Consulates

HK-Beijing-shanghai-Bali-HK do I need a visa

I am planning to spend 4 days in HK, 72 hours in Beijing, 24 hours in shanghai ( via train) 6 nights in Bali and then fly home from HK - do I need a visa or can I use the 72 hour and 144 hour free transit?

Yes, you need a visa. As you will stop over both Shanghai and Beijing, you do not qualify for the 72 or 144 hours free transit policy.
