About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

I have a one way flight booked to Shanghai from Uganda and then 72 hours later

a separately booked flight from Shanghai to Canada. It says that you need a confirmed seat with your outgoing ticket, as if you need to be checked in. Is this true? I won't have checked in yet for my outgoing flight so I won't have a seat. Does this matter?

Under legal conditions, the airline has to guarantee a seat if you have purchased a ticket from it. Tickets with non-confirmed seats are only issued to airline staff or their relatives at no cost. There is no requirement to select a seat or check-in when reaching immigration.
