hi, i would like to visit wuxi on a day trip from shanghai.

And would like to see the Mount Lingshan Scenic Area and Tai Lake.  Can you please tell me is it necessary to have a English speaking guide with us or can we manage it ourselves to roam around? We r a family of 4..we plan to take the train from Shanghai..  Can you please give us some tips..  Is it safe to take cabs and go around WX?

There is no need to have a guide. You can take a high speed train from either Shanghai Railway Station or Hongqiao Railway Station to WX first. Upon arrival, take bus no. 88 to reach Mount Lingshan. After the visiting, still take bus no. 88 back to WX Railway Station. Then take bus no. 1 from the train station to Yuantouzhu and you may find yourself inside the Tai Lake Scenic Area.It is safe to take regularly-run cabs going around WX. No worry.
