About:China Transit Visa

Flying out from Shanghai via Wuhan

Hi,
I have a return flight out of Shanghai to Sydney via Wuhan (a short stopover). Will the visa-free 144 hour stay work for this or do I have to get a type G entry permit?
Thx.

Because of the layover in Wuhan, I'm afraid you cannot use the 144hrs free transit policy. It means you need to get a G type in advance.

Thanks Bonnie, does a G-type necessarily require details of some local person in China? For my stay, I may live with a friend in Shanghai but I'll be paying my own way otherwise.

Nope, the details of some person in China is not necessary. You can just provide the air tickets, passport, application form, recent photo, and the hotel reservations.
