About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Jakarta - Guangzhou - Beijing - Detroit

I fly from Jakarta to Guangzhou on April 28th and leave Guangzhou on April 29th for Detroit, USA. My flight from Guangzhou to Detroit, USA has a short 2-hour layover in Beijing (I will obviously not leave the airport). Does this layover in Beijing mean that I need to get a visa to stay in Guangzhou on the night of the 28th?

If your total layover in Guangzhou and Beijing is not exceeding 24 hours, you will qualify for the 24 hour direct transit, and then no visa will be needed. Otherwise, you need to apply for a transit G type or tourist L type in advance.
