Can I get a work visa in a third party country while on a tourist visa?

Hello, I have a tourist L type for china and recently got a job. Im american. Can I go to a different country to get my work Z type? or do i have to go back to the states?

Courtney, actually, you can try to convert your tourist L type to a work Z type at the exit and entry administration of the local PSB within China. If it can be done, you don’t need to go to a third country to make the application.
