My son is working in Shanghai China what do I need to do first in order to visit him in July of this year and how soon do I need to start planning

Carol, if so, you go there for a short time, you can just apply for a tourist L type. You need to provide your passport and its copy, the application form, a passport-style photo, and an invitation letter from your son. You are advised to make the application one month prior to your trip.
