Visa to Mongolia from Beijing

I am a US citizen traveling to Mongolia. I plan to fly into BJ, spend the night and then take the train to Ulan Baatar the next day. What kind of visa do I need?

Jilly, if you will spend less than 24 hours in China, you don't need the entry permit. If you will spend more than 24 hours, you can apply for a transit G type.
