About:China Visa Application in UK

I just received a work flight from London to Shanghai on 3/7 it's 2/23.

Apparently you have to make an appointment to apply. The next appointment isn't until 3/8...is there anything I can do?

If you hold confirmed air tickets and fly from London to Shanghai for not more than 144 hours, next, fly to a third country or region rather than UK, you will be able to enjoy the 144 hour free transit in Shanghai. No visa will be required then.
