About:Chinese Embassy in U.S.A.

My husband and I are both U.S. citizens and are traveling through Asia next month and into April.

We will be entering Hong Kong for about 3 nights from Thailand and then continuing on to Shanghai for maybe 5 nights before completing out trip in Japan. Both HK and Shanghai have visa waivers for U.S. citizens (I believe shanghai is 144 hours). I am correct in assuming my itinerary will be okay without a visa?

Kristin, if your travel route is like HK-Shanghai-Japan, you will be able to use the 144 hour free transit in Shanghai. In this case, no visa will be needed.
