Taking a train from Beijing to Hong Kong

I'm flying into either Beijing or Shanghai (depending on the price) and then taking a train the same day to Hong Kong? Do I need a Visa?

Elizabeth, if you travel like US-Beijing or Shanghai (within 24 hours)-HK, you will be able to make use of the 24 hour direct transit in Beijing or Shanghai.
