About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

I am flying from SFO to Colombo with green card us and SL passport do I need a transit visa for 20hr

You mean you will transit in China for 20 hours when traveling from SFO to Colombo? If yes, you will be able to use the 24 hour direct transit in China, and then no transit G type is needed.
