I've been reading up on the Shaanxi Museum and have read that if we purchase a 'Special Exhibition' ticket for 20 yuan, we'll skip the line up.

Yes. We usually buy this ticket for our client to avoid the long line of free ticket. However, it is only efficient in the normal peroid time. During Summer Holiday, even if you hold the ticket, you still need to wait in line to enter the museum because a lot of people buy the special ticket to avoid the crowd.
