Applying for Tourist visa, please help

I want to visit China and am trying to figure out the application requirement on bringing my bank statement since I didn't see that requirement on the official website for applying. Do I just print out my bank statement or do I have to go to my bank? Also, do I need to go through an agency to get a tourist visa, I cant apply for it on my own if I want to visit the Disney Resort there?
