About:Requirements for Permanent Residence Permit

Is it true that when you apply for permanent residency you have to give up your passport for it?

I am an English teacher coming to China with work. I was told that my passport will be retained during my permanent residency application process and it can be for a few weeks.

Anca, yes, it is true. You need to submit your passport for the permanent residency application.
