Wearing red clothing wards off bad luck in the Chinese Year of the Rooster?

I read that wearing red during the Chinese Year of the Rooster wards off bad luck; however, you cannot purchase it. Can you purchase before the start of the new year? Can you give the money to someone else to purchase for you?

Hi,
I keyed in part of your question on line and also looked for taboos etc. I couldn't find anything that states you can't buy red clothes on New Year's Day. All I found was not to wear black or white on New Year day. You can wear red clothes on that day. So I personally would buy red clothes before the 28th to play safe unless someone else says otherwise. I'm going to buy red clothes before then, after all we are still in the Chinese old year.
Hope this helps.
