Day trip ex Beiijing to see Pandas

On 24hr and/or 72 hr visas has anyone done a day trip by plane & back to another city? Somewhere I read if transiting Beijing you are supposed to stay in the Beiijing area which would preclude doing above.

Lyn, if you use the 72-hour free transit in Beijing, it's not allowed to exit Beijing to Chengdu to see the pandas. In fact, there is a Panda Hall in Beijing Zoo where you can see the pandas.
