About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

from the EU with Chinese tourist L type + a short trip to Japan

Hi everyone,
could anyone please advise?

My parents will be coming Vienna Airport(from the EU) directly to Shanghai on 12 March , and scheduled to fly back on the 30th (so of course they need a visa) BUT they would also like to take a trip to Japan between 23-29March. (a seperate ticket) then coming back to Shanghai for just 1 day , flying back to Europe on the 30th.

How does this work with the Visa policy.
Many kind thanks
Igor

Igor, when you first enter Shanghai, you can use the Chinese tourist L type.
When you re-enter, you can enjoy the 24 hour direct transit in Shanghai.

oh thank you so much chuck, so as long as my parents have their regular Tourist L type , the second time they enter (from Japan) they can get the 72/144hr free access, right.

I would like to make it clear that their primary flight is Vienna to Shanghai , shanghai to Vienna.

the trip to Japan (seperate from the main flight from EU) will be from Shanghai to Osaka or Tokyo/ return back to Shanghai. I hope that is still okay.

Thank you and sorry for my long-winded message.

Igor, you mean they will travel like Vienna-Shanghai (use the tourist L type)-Japan-Shanghai (one day-Vienna, right? If yes, they can enjoy the 24 hour direct transit for the second entry to Shanghai.
