About:China Visa on Arrival

I am a us citizen traveling to China within a week will stay there for 2 weeks do I need a visa?

I will be visiting Hong kong, Shangai, Beijing.

Yes you will need a visa. You are staying more than 72 hrs you need it. You can apply for it in Washington if you live in the state. No need for visa for Hong Kong, Taiwan, Macau, and Singapore
