And will have a connecting flight to the US via United Airlines (UA) at T2.  How do i get from T1 to T2 and what are the procedures at T2 (customs > immigration > pre departure)?

Mon A, so you are landing at Pudong Airport right? If so, you need to reclaim your luggage and take immigration & quarantine check upon landing. Then follow the signposts to T2 and deal with the transfer procedure.
