beijing - xi'an - chengdu - shanghai

Question

Hello, we are looking to visit Beijing, Xi'an, Chengdu and Shanghai. Most of the recommended trips above do not cover Chengdu with these other destinations. What is the easiest way to get from Xi'an to Chengdu and then from Chengdu to Shanghai. We have a few days so are happy to take the train (soft sleeper) from Xi'an to Chengdu, can we book the train trip in advance in the UK or would we need to book when we got to Beijing? Are there flights from Chengdu to Shanghai and what airlines are recommended? Many thanks in advance for your help.

The easiest and fastest way to get to each destination is by flight. However, you may choose to take an overnight train from Xian to Chengdu and the ride takes about 12 hours. The train tickets are released 30 days prior to the departure date, so you are advised to book the tickets as early as possible to guarantee the availability for you. There are many flights from Chengdu to Shanghai, you can choose the flights from large and reputed airline companies, such as China Eastern Airline(MU), China Airline(CA), China Southern Airline(CZ) or Shanghai Airline(FM).
