Long layover in Hong Kong

Have a valid U.S. passport. Have a 16 hour layover in Hong Kong (from U.S. to Indonesia). Do we need to pay for a visa or would we be able to use the 72 hour free transit.

The 72 hour free transit is not applicable to travelers transiting in HK. But don’t worry! You don’t need a visa for 16-hour transit in HK because USA passport holders can enjoy free entry to HK and stay there for not exceeding 90 days.
